Practice Areas › Sexual abuse of children and adults
Sexual abuse is an insidious problem in our society, and its consequences can be devastating, particularly when the abuse occurs in a relationship based on authority or trust. Individuals who have been abused are often reluctant to come forward for fear of not being believed, or because they don't understand what has happened to them, or because they feel complicit in the abuse.
Our firm is well-known as a champion for children and adults who have been sexually abused. We understand the sensitive nature of these claims, and offer our clients compassion as well as expertise. We are skilled at educating juries about the complex dynamics of abuse. We have resolved claims against teachers, youth leaders, clergy, physicians, therapists, and others who have abused individuals in their care.
In many cases, liability for sexual abuse does not stop with the abuser but extends to employers and supervisors who have put the abuser in a position to take advantage of children or vulnerable adults. Responsibility may also extend to institutions, such as nursing homes, whose job it is to protect their residents. We are knowledgeable about the law relating to sexual abuse, and can help our clients take advantage of the remedies available to them.
Determining the time limit for filing a sexual abuse claim can be complicated, especially when an adult brings a claim for abuse that occurred in childhood. If you believe that you have been injured by sexual abuse, you should call an attorney right away to preserve your rights.
